All that there needs to be is variety on the Guild Wars Store. Upgradable "Game of the Year" packs like the Prophecies pack is a good start. Besides character slots, other trivial things might be nice too. How about buying custom music through the Guild Wars store? Or at least DirectSong licenses for the extra collector's edition Factions and Nightfall music. I only have "regular" Factions, and I really wouldn't mind paying $9.99 or so for the extra exclusive in-game tracks because the games have amazing music. Extra storage space would be nice as well, or how about buying an upgrade that increases stack sizes from 250 to, say, 999 so I can really stock up on those wooden planks. The Guild Wars store just has so much room for variety, and increasing that just kills two birds with one stone in this case.

Sterling work there absinth.
But this thread isn't discussing prerelease bonus pack. this thread is talking about the special missions pack u get for free when you spend $30/£17 on the guildwars in game shop. Not a preorder bonus pack.

We all know that this promotion is an insentive to players to buy the GWEN update direct from the ingame shop.
But many like to get a box, with the collectable activation card Anet have been plugging since prophesies came out. a manual. box art. and the like. and these folks like myself usually have all chapters, several extra char slots. and the millenium edition upgrade already. leaving us limited on what we can buy to get the bonus cos like i said we want the box for GW:EN.

I persoanlly believe it highly unlikely that this promotion will be the only way to get the content as when the promotion ends on october 31st that would mean any new commers to the game would be completely unable to get it.

I think once the promo is over you must have another way to get it(probably similar to millenium edition upgrade). Meby not right away but eventually. Anet have never before restricted content in a way to make it out of reach of a new player. and i dont think they are going to start now.
Also resticting it to people would in a sence be punishing the players who have supported Anet in the past by buying all there products, upgades and extras. This i also think is highly unlikely.

But back to the point of the original post. we want to know for sure whether you will eventually be able to buy the content seperately. I want the content and i want my game box. i dont mind waiting a few months to get the content if thats what it takes to get both. but i dont want to miss out while we wait to find out for sure....

Bit more longwinded than i meant but i hope u get our point now.

Their flaw, imo, is lack of method to buy from online store, only credit card atm.
And I think those bonus mission packs aren't enough content to make it a separate product for retail.
If you want to get GW:EN from local store for manual, poster, etc.. then you can't get this bonus pack. That's fair and not big a deal imo.
They are making a killing off the free advertisement...

They're working on new payment options between now and the end of the promo, so no one really will have an excuse of not being able to get them.
Guess you will be among the first to whine about all that money you spent and why it should mean something in GW2.

The problem is the whole 'promotion' is plain retarded. It's far far away from being free...

here is a classic situation....."hey I need some more char....oh I buy three slots...and I get something for free...Sweet deal"
...it's more about making people buy things they don't necessarily want or need (just come on, who actually needs +3 extra slots, it must be a very rare case) or about making people pay significantly MORE for something they would buy anyway elsewhere (like GW:EN)

And about getting something which will probably prove to be so small and crappy that in fact should be free - you have to BUY it before release, they don't have any reason to make it high quality because it's quality won't affect it's sales. No way to even see if it's worth the money spent on it.

Having it available later as a separate purchase is a must.

first bolded is correct as it is a small freebie tossed to the people who ......... use the store anyway.

the second bold is pure BANDINI because there wont be enough content to justify paying for it.

and from the official GW main site is this.

Quote:
The Guild Wars Mission Pack is not transferable and will only be available to the exact account that fulfills this promotion.
now that is clear............promotion only

Loviatar, The items you mentioned were from the Pre-Release Bonus Package, Not the Mission Pack.

Thanks, that is of course what I meant.

And Loviatar, how do you know there won't be enough content to pay for?

Besides, it's not like Anet has to do any extra work to offer the Bonus Missions for $$.

my interpretation of that sentence would be emphasis on exact account, I infer this from the first half of the sentence, it is stating that it will only be available for the account you made the purchase with/for, if this is indeed the intended meaning it is ambiguous as to whether the only possible way to obtain the pack is through this promotion.

As others have stated it would seem somewhat against Anet's apparent philosophy about non-exclusion and equal opportunity.

I do agree that after people have already done waht the OP hopes not to have to do, "waste" money in the store to obtain the pack that it would be unfair to them to then have it available at a much lower price, however it also seems a little unfair to force people who want the pack to purchase other items in the online store.

Either way people will be unhappy, but as the OP asked, many people would like this ambiguity cleared up.

People who've already spent $30 just to get the packs know what they were doing.

They could have waited until October to get more info.

I no way should the actions of others effect Anets' decision to offer the Bonus Missions separately.

conjecture based on the following.

1. they have stated it is a bonus based on the promotion and only available for a limited time under limited conditions to qualifing accounts.

2. if it is something that most will not have it it cannot be a big special deal or you really piss off the majority who cannot/will not buy from the store there for it will not have enough content to justify selling in the first place. it is a small promotion thank you not Sorrows Furace.

3. Anet is known for sticking to its guns when it makes a firm, straight statement and there is no well maybe later in their statement on this.

my guesses and reasons.

was the special item onfo what you were after?

if not my apologies for misunderstanding what you wanted

I swear Gaile has said, "Not at this time." Which, in Gaile speak, could be "maybe later."

There are basically two possibilities:

1) The Missions suck, or Anet will not want to offer them (for reasons you cited).

2) It actually is decent content, and demand for them will grow, and Anet will give in to offer them in the Online storefor a flat price.

On guildwars.com, "unique rewards" are promised for the Bonus Missions.

I'd like to know what this means: Weapons? Skills? A unique experience?

It may be NCsoft that is having sole discretion about the sale of the mission packs on the online store and not ArenaNet.They NCsoft has the finall say being the Publisher not the Developer. The Publisher always has the final say in the end. There hasn't been a replacment for Alex in 3 weeks or so I wonder what is taking NCsoft so much time to get a replacement.

I just came back to check my thread and am glad it hasn't been hijacked or turned into a flame war :-) I was almost afraid to click on it when I saw the responses lol. I still hope to get an official response but I wanted to make it clear I'm more or less just trying to clear it up as opposed to anything else.

If it's just a promotion then so be it. If it's going to be sold in the store for like 5 bucks or something, great I'll wait for it (materials person myself for GW:EN). If it's only a promotion but they are adding new content to the store within the promotion period, great too.

Hopefully there will be some kind of new and direct answer regarding this though, especially before GW:EN is released. It's nothing more, not an anti- or pro- anet thread. Just a question or clarification. I kind of understood what was said about it being for the exact account to mean in relation to the promotion that it was talking about, not meaning exclusively for the promotion. That's the main reason for the clarification request, so that we have an official word on whether we misunderstood instead of just another forum user's interpretation of it.

Also, a quick comment about anyone who bought 3 character slots as soon they heard about the promotion and doesn't want it to be sold separately: some people are good consumers and others aren't so good. Don't blame the rest of us for being good consumers and querying for more information (not demanding they do it one way or the other) just because you didn't. You were a bad consumer (a good customer, though I suppose, a bit blind).

Sorry unless I missed something, that had nothing to do with either the OP's point nor my Post.

And no I won't be.

Going back on topic.....

Putting it in comparison. What about those who can't reach shops for whatever reason and only buy the games from the official store, should we then a few months down the line allow the access of items and content that is inside the collector's editions of the games from stores?

I would assume that most people who can use the online store can go to some other non-GW related online shopping website and buy CEs to have them shipped to them.

Good point, my analogy was crap. But the point is those CEs are collectable rewards for those willing to spend that little bit more.

Especially with more payment options and services coming soon (apparently) - I'm not saying don't ever give this mission pack away again, just make sure its not in anything less than a £17 bundle otherwise you'll be pleasing one set of people and pissing off others.

Just make it a permanent "promotion", meaning when if ever you spend $30 in the online store you will get the pack. At least then you wouldn't have the time limitation and people could decide if it was worth it or not.

I predict: NOBODY from A-Net, including "straight-talking" Andrew Patrick, is going to put their head on the chopping block, and tell us if the bonus missions will be available outside of the existing promotion.

If people knew they could get the bonus missions later, without spending in the in-game store, they're likely to buy GW:EN from the cheapest box-shifter instead (and they won't be buying extra char slots or whatever either). That would defeat the whole purpose of the promotion, and who at A-net is brave/dumb enough to do that?

Maybe after the current promotion has expired, they might have something to say. But even then - if they make the bonus missions available at all, I bet it will STILL be tied to the ingame-store. Either as a purchase, or a new promotion.

To the guy that said the content would not be enough to pay for seperatly-
Have you seen the content u get in the millenium edition upgrade? a few weapons that most of which have been nerfed so they can never be as good as a weapon you pick up in game. yet many people bought it including me.

also im pretty sure i saw a post somewhere that anet had released RRP on GWEN as $39.99/34.99 euro. my maths is a bit shaky just now but i think thats about £23-£24. online sites are selling pre-order £17-£18. so selling the mission pack for £5.99 sounds likely to me.

It doesnt actually say anywhere in the details that the missions are only available through this limited time promotion. its just says they only available FREE though this promotion.

little off topic but was mentioned in this thread the items you get for pre-order. i never noticed last 2 chapters but can you get pre-order pack though GWshop?
For those of us who only have GWEN left to spend money on are we going to be forced to choose which bonus pack we want. Pre-order or £17 offer?
Would hate to think the 2 are mutually exclusive.
